FAAC Keypad & Intercom Repair: The Coppell Owner’s Guide

We repair FAAC keypads and intercoms throughout Coppell, usually at your gate same day when you call before noon. Installed replacement typically runs $185 to $460 depending on which FAAC model you have and whether we’re swapping the keypad face, the intercom board, or the full unit. Tell me what it’s doing wrong and I’ll tell you what it’s going to take - no runaround.

Most homeowners discover the failure the hard way: the keypad beeps but the gate won’t move, or the intercom rings the house but you can’t hear the visitor, or the buttons work intermittently after rain. In Coppell’s clay soil and summer heat, we see this all the time. The wiring at the hinge post takes the abuse, and the keypad face bakes in direct sun until the membrane cracks. We keep FAAC-compatible parts on the truck because we know what fails first.

Which FAAC Models This Applies To

We service the FAAC keypads and intercoms most common in Coppell neighborhoods: the XKPR wireless keypad, the XK-180 and XK-120 wired keypads, and the FAAC intercom panels paired with 402, 422, 455 D, and 770 series operators. If you can’t find your model number, check the back of the keypad housing or the inside of the intercom faceplate. There’s almost always a small white label with the FAAC part number starting with “XK” or “RF”.

Here’s the compatibility gotcha most owners run into: FAAC wireless keypads are frequency-specific to your receiver board. An XKPR keypad from 2015 won’t talk to a 2020 receiver board even though they look nearly identical. We verify the receiver frequency before quoting a wireless keypad swap so you’re not paying for a part that won’t pair. For wired keypads, aftermarket replacements work fine in most cases and cut the part cost by 40 to 60 percent, but we’re picky about which ones we’ll install. Some cheap equivalents have flimsy ribbon connectors that fail inside a year. We’d rather tell you that before the part is in your hand than after it’s in your driveway.

Signs Your FAAC Keypad & Intercom Repair Is Failing

  • Keypad lights up but gate won’t open. The keypad face is sending a signal, but the receiver board or the operator’s input is dead. We test the keypad output directly before going any deeper, which saves you from buying a keypad when the problem is the operator.
  • Buttons work intermittently, worse after rain. Moisture has gotten into the keypad housing or the wiring at the base. FAAC keypads are sealed, but Coppell storms push water into hairline cracks you can’t see. We check the gasket and the wire nuts at the post first.
  • Intercom rings but audio is crackly or silent. Usually a corroded connection at the handset or a failing speaker cone. Sometimes the transformer feeding the intercom is dying and sending low voltage, which is a cheaper fix than a new intercom board.
  • Keypad shows a solid or flashing red light and won’t respond. The internal relay has failed or the keypad lost its programming. We re-flash FAAC keypad memory settings as a first step; if the relay is dead, it’s a swap.
  • Some numbers don’t register at all. The membrane switch layer is cracked from sun exposure. FAAC keypad faces are UV-rated but Texas sun has a way of finding the seam anyway. Once buttons start going, the whole face is usually on borrowed time.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

Here’s what we’re quoting in Coppell right now:

  • Keypad face only (XK-180, XK-120): $185 to $275 installed
  • Wireless keypad (XKPR or newer, frequency-matched): $210 to $340 installed
  • Intercom board repair or replacement: $220 to $460 installed depending on the unit and how much wiring needs correcting
  • Full keypad plus reader/intercom combo: $385 to $520 installed

That’s parts and labor, quoted before we start, and the number you agree to is the number on the invoice. No surprise line items. The price is agreed before any work begins. The range depends on whether we’re repairing wiring on site (which we do regularly in older Coppell neighborhoods where the original install was done in a hurry) or just swapping the part. Every repair carries our 90-Day Done Right Promise in writing: if it’s not right, we come back and make it right.

DIY or Call Us?

You can safely check a few things yourself: confirm the keypad has power, check the breaker for the operator, and look for obvious damage to the wire where it enters the keypad housing. If the keypad is cracked or water has gotten in, that’s the problem and you don’t need a technician to tell you.

Where DIY goes sideways is inside the keypad housing and at the operator terminal strip. FAAC keypads run low voltage (typically 24V), so the shock risk is minimal, but the wiring fault that’s causing your keypad to fail can also damage the operator’s control board, and that’s a $400 mistake. We’ve unbunched enough wire-nut birds’ nests behind FAAC keypads to know that the previous handyman’s “fix” is often the reason you’re calling us now. If you’ve already opened the housing and feel over your head, call us at (903) 829-4499. We’ll straighten it out and stand behind the work.
